OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY
Initial Course for Health and Safety Representatives, Supervisors and Managers (WorkSafe Approved)
Overview
The OHS Act 2004 outlines a number of requirements on employers and employees to maintain workplaces that so far as practicable eliminate risks to health and safety.

Employers are also required to consult with employees and where relevant facilitate workplace Health and Safety Representatives undertaking a 5 day WorkSafe approved training program.

The initial course for Health and Safety Representatives, Managers and Supervisors will enable you to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to be an effective Health and Safety Representative in your workplace.
Job Prospects
This course is relevant for:

- Elected Health and Safety Representatives in the workplace;
- Supervisors or Managers with responsibilities for health and safety; and
- Persons seeking an entry level program into higher qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety.


Delivery
The course is presented in line with adult learning principles and involves a blended approach to training incorporating distance learning and direct delivery strategies.

Duration
35 hours/one day each week over a 5 week period all subject to student numbers.
Presenters
The course is presented by recognised specialists in the area including occupational health and safety specialists, lawyers, and accredited trainers.
Prerequisites
Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English. Students undertaking this course will be able to progress into nationally accredited qualifications - Certificate III and IV in Occupational Health and Safety.
