Overview
The unit has been designed specifically
as an introduction into the fire investigation process. The
material is relevant, current and practical. Participants
completing the unit will have a better understanding of the
cause and origin of fires, the roles of agencies and evidence
preservation and collection.
Job Prospects
This unit has been written and designed
to enhance the skills of investigators, insurance loss adjustors/assessors
and those who may have cause to investigate fires in structures
or vehicles. It will provide a good grounding in determining
the cause and origin of fires whether arson, accidental or
product related.
Delivery
This is a Nationally Accredited unit, which
covers the basics of the fire investigation process. Participants
will be required to successfully complete a workbook, practical
scenarios and an examination prior to receiving a Certificate
of Attainment. The course is delivered in competency-based
format and matched to specific learning outcomes contained
within nationally recognised training.

& travel
• Common causes of fire
• Roles and responsibilities of investigation agencies
• Evidence collection and scene safety
• Roles and motivations of fire setters
Duration
5 days (4 days theory – 1 day practical
fire scenes)
Presenters
Course presenters are all recognised industry
experts holding relevant experience and training qualification.
They include fire investigation and forensic science personnel,
lawyers and former and currently serving police members.
Prerequisites
No pre-requisites although students must
possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills and a sound
grasp of written and spoken English.
