The Institute does not have its own on-campus student accommodation, but there are several housing and accommodation options available. Students can choose to share and/or rent: an apartment, flat or house, or stay in student apartment complexes or hostels, or live with an Australian family in a Homestay.
Please note that February is a busy time with thousands of students all looking for accommodation and we highly recommend that you have sourced accommodation before you travel.

Student Housing Australia manages purpose built apartment complexes which offer affordable, secure and quality accommodation designed specifically for International Students. Many apartments are centrally located in the CBD and in very close proximity to AIPS.

All rental costs include your furniture, cutlery and crockery, gas and water. Most apartments have private bathroom and toilet facilities.

Flexible leasing options are offered, 6 months or 12 months with one, two or three bedroom apartments available.

Private Board and Homestay

Homestay is a term used to describe boarding with a family. With Homestay accommodation, the student has a single furnished bedroom and shares all other areas of the house. Students can elect to have all meals provided or choose to prepare their own food.

It is expected that the student would be treated as a member of the family. All Homestay families have completed comprehensive police and facilities check.

Australian Institute of Public Safety recommends Homestay as it is a perfect way to help improve your English and understand the Australian way of life while living with a carefully selected friendly Australian family.

Costs of Homestay ranges depending on the services provided (full board including food or just board) but are generally around AUD$180 - $230 per week. The advantages of staying with a host family are to give you more opportunity to learn:

Shared House Accommodation

Moving into an established household that has a vacant bedroom is often an easier and less costly option than leasing a vacant house or flat. You will pay rent for your own bedroom and share the bathroom, kitchen and living areas with the other people living in the household.

To find a household to join, check the Age Newspaper property section, or look at Housing notice boards at other city Universities such as RMIT and University of Melbourne as well as AIPS, or wait until the start of the academic year when you are sure to meet other students wanting to share a house.
